Recipient of the Best Undergraduate Paper award, Zarifah Aida from Bachelor’s of Business Management with Financial Management Specification, expressed that her main goal was to explore the topic in-depth and contribute something meaningful.

Her research paper, entitled ‘The Role of Forensic Accounting Techniques in Reducing Financial Crime in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’, examines the best practices and strategies that enable organisations to leverage forensic accounting effectively, which can contribute to stronger financial systems and reduced economic losses due to financial crime.

“I didn’t begin this research for recognition, so receiving the award was both surprising and motivating.”

“The experience was especially fulfilling as it reflected the effort and persistence I invested, particularly in overcoming challenges during the research process with my supervisor’s guidance,” Zarifah said, adding that the award and the experience boosted her academic confidence and encouraged her to pursue further research and learning opportunities.

Ousmane Sow, recipient of the Best Research Paper award, shared the same sentiment. The Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (BAF) alumna shared that her research, which was about the role of “Fintech in Enhancing Financial Inclusion in Selangor, Malaysia” helped her explore a new area, learn new skills, and grow both academically and personally.

“My study showed that financial inclusion depends not merely on access to FinTech services, but fundamentally on users’ literacy, awareness, and meaningful engagement with digital financial tools.”

“Receiving the Best Research Paper Award is a truly humbling and meaningful honor. It felt really good to see that all my hard work had paid off.”

“Honestly, the process was not easy. I faced challenges such as limited time and difficulties in collecting data. However, with the support of my lecturers and friends, I was able to overcome these challenges. This experience taught me to be patient, strong, and committed to my goals.”

“This award inspires me to continue conducting impactful, and meaningful research that contributes to academic knowledge and societal development,” she said.

The Business Research Project Colloquium initiative by FOBAL continues to encourage and inspire students to venture into research, utilising existing literature and statistics to drive meaningful change in society.
