MINDFUL LIVING: Advancing Health, Wellness and Preventive Care

The Faculty of Pharmacy at SEGi University, Kota Damansara organised MINDFUL LIVING, a scholarly academic event aimed at advancing interdisciplinary perspectives on health, wellness, and preventive care. Held on 9 April 2026, the programme brought together scientific discourse and practical health applications, reflecting the growing importance of holistic wellbeing in healthcare education and research.

The event began with an opening ceremony, followed by a series of expert led sessions that explored different dimensions of physical, mental, and emotional health. Asst. Prof. Dr Vaidehi Ulaganathan, Head of Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Faculty of Applied Sciences, UCSI University, delivered a lecture titled “Turning Stress into Strength.” Her session examined the physiological and psychological aspects of stress adaptation, highlighting the importance of resilience in managing daily challenges.

This was followed by a presentation by Dr Bama V. V. Menon, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, SEGi University, Kota Damansara, titled “Gut Feeling: How Microbes Shape the Mind.” The session provided an insightful exploration of the gut brain connection, emphasising how microbiota can influence neurocognitive function, emotional health, and overall wellbeing.

The programme continued with a session by Ms Pamela Wathi titled “Start Strong: Creating a Healthy Daily Routine.” Her presentation focused on evidence based behavioural strategies that can help individuals build sustainable daily habits and make healthier lifestyle choices.

Beyond the lecture series, the event also included an interactive activity session designed to encourage participant engagement and experiential learning. The programme concluded with a guided yoga session, reinforcing the importance of integrative approaches to health that support both physical and mental wellbeing.

This initiative aligns closely with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, particularly in promoting mental health awareness, preventive healthcare, and healthier lifestyle practices. By encouraging knowledge sharing and practical wellness habits, the event contributes to broader efforts in improving quality of life and reducing the burden of non communicable diseases.

Through MINDFUL LIVING, SEGi University continues to demonstrate the role of academic institutions in advancing health education, community engagement, and sustainable healthcare development. The event served as a meaningful reminder that true wellbeing begins not only with treatment, but with awareness, prevention, and mindful daily choices.
