On 1 April 2026, students from SEGi University and Colleges Kota Damansara took learning beyond the classroom with an exclusive educational visit to W Kuala Lumpur, a flagship luxury lifestyle property under Marriott International. The visit brought together six students, including participants from a student exchange programme with Ferrandi Paris, creating a rich cross-cultural learning experience within the hospitality field.
Designed to bridge academic knowledge with real industry practice, the visit offered students direct exposure to the operations of a global luxury hotel brand. Through structured presentations and guided engagement with industry professionals, students deepened their understanding of key areas such as front office operations, guest experience design, and food and beverage innovation. The presence of international exchange students further enriched the session, encouraging the exchange of perspectives and strengthening global industry awareness.
The visit began with an overview of Marriott International and W Hotels, highlighting the brand’s distinctive positioning within the luxury lifestyle segment. Students were introduced to W Kuala Lumpur’s focus on bold design, innovation, and personalised guest experiences, setting the context for the sessions that followed. This was complemented by a briefing on internship pathways, where students gained insights into career opportunities, industry expectations, and the competencies required to succeed in hospitality.

A key highlight was the Front Office presentation, where students explored how guest interactions are managed within a lifestyle luxury environment. The session emphasised service personalisation, attention to detail, and the importance of creating memorable first impressions. This was followed by a Food and Beverage presentation, focusing on how unique dining concepts are developed through creativity, branding, and an understanding of evolving consumer trends.
The experience was further brought to life through a guided property tour. Students were able to observe the hotel’s design elements, operational flow, and service environments first-hand, allowing them to connect theory with real-world application. The visit concluded with a group photo, marking a meaningful moment of shared learning and collaboration.
The outcomes of the visit were clear. Students gained practical insights into luxury hospitality operations, developed greater confidence in professional interactions, and strengthened their understanding of global industry standards. The inclusion of Ferrandi Paris exchange students added depth to the experience, broadening perspectives and reinforcing the value of international collaboration.
Overall, the visit demonstrated the impact of experiential learning in shaping future-ready graduates. By stepping into a real luxury hospitality environment, students were able to see, understand, and experience what excellence truly looks like in practice.
