The International Innovation and Exhibition Fair 2026 was held from 7 to 9 April 2026 at Kolej MARA Kulim, organised by MARA Malaysia. The event served as a prestigious international platform for innovators and inventors to showcase creative ideas, practical solutions, and emerging technologies with real world impact.
Having been successfully organised in previous years, including 2024 and 2025, IIEF continues to attract participants from Malaysia and abroad. The competition brings together students, educators, researchers, industry professionals, entrepreneurs, and organisations to exchange ideas, present innovations, and gain international recognition across various categories.
At this year’s event, two groups of students from the Department of Computing, SEGi College Penang proudly represented the institution with innovative projects. Interestingly, both projects centred around the concept of “shuttle” systems, but applied the idea in very different and practical contexts.
The first group, from the Bachelor of Information Technology programme and led by Chay Wei Song, developed the Shuttle Sport System. The platform was designed to support badminton court bookings, coach training session reservations, and related activity management. Created for Persatuan Tan Si Eng Chuan Tong in Bukit Mertajam, the project was completed in collaboration with Wong Yean Jun and demonstrated strong teamwork in delivering a practical digital solution for community sports management.
Meanwhile, Cheong Kai Qi and Calvin Ng Wei Keong from the Bachelor of Computer Science programme introduced the eShuttle SEGi app system. This innovation focused on improving the student shuttle van service at SEGi College Penang by providing a more systematic and efficient slot booking platform. Through the system, students can reserve rides more easily, reducing reliance on manual coordination methods such as WhatsApp while improving overall transport efficiency for daily student mobility.
Both projects successfully earned Silver medals, marking an impressive achievement for these first year students. Their success reflects not only technical ability, but also the confidence to identify everyday challenges and transform them into meaningful digital solutions.
Although the projects were developed for different purposes, both shared a common goal of improving user experience, accessibility, and operational efficiency. The achievement also highlights the value of practical learning, where students are encouraged to apply classroom knowledge to real challenges faced by communities and institutions.
This accomplishment aligns with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 4: Quality Education
By fostering innovation, creativity, and practical learning through participation in an international competition.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
By developing smart digital systems that enhance services and improve operational efficiency.
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
By supporting improved transportation management and community based sports facility systems.
Overall, the “Double Shuttle, Double Silver” achievement marks an excellent start to 2026 for these young innovators. It also reflects the strong potential of SEGi College Penang students in developing technology driven solutions that respond to real needs and contribute meaningfully to society.
