SEGi University organised a community based Corporate Social Responsibility programme on 24 January 2026 at Dewan Blok C, PPR Kota Damansara, as part of a wider health screening initiative focusing on dental and eye health. The programme was led by the Faculty of Dentistry in collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Optometry and Vision Science, bringing together multiple health disciplines to support community wellbeing.
The Faculty of Pharmacy was represented by four Bachelor of Pharmacy final year students, Ong Jun Hong, Teo Hui Sze, Nur Afrina Binti Andridonas, and Joey Wong Shi Lin. The students volunteered under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr Tham Hong Wai and Ms Rini Dinesh Sangarran, and played an active role in delivering pharmacy related services to the public.

Throughout the programme, many community members approached the pharmacy booth seeking advice on their medications and supplements. The pharmacy team conducted medication reviews and counselling sessions to help participants better understand correct medication use, improve adherence, and identify potential medication related issues. The sessions focused on promoting medication safety and encouraging responsible use of medicines in daily life.
Participants were also educated on the safe and appropriate use of supplements. The students assisted by checking product registration and safety information through the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency website, and provided guidance to ensure supplements were used appropriately and safely.
In addition, the programme placed strong emphasis on medication disposal awareness. Community members were informed about the risks of improper disposal of unused and expired medicines, including potential harm to the environment and public health. Practical advice was given on responsible disposal practices to reduce these risks.

The programme received encouraging participation from the local community and provided valuable hands on experience for the pharmacy students. It allowed them to apply classroom knowledge in a real world setting while working alongside students and staff from other health disciplines.
Overall, the initiative reinforced the role of pharmacists in promoting medication safety, rational medicine use, and environmental responsibility. It also reflects SEGi University’s continued commitment to community engagement and sustainable healthcare practices through meaningful collaboration across faculties.
