Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is often met with silence, with many women unaware that certain behaviours experienced in their daily lives constitute as GBV.
To break the silence on this issue, Dr Sudhashini Nair ACMA, CGMA, Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Business, Accountancy and Law (FOBAL), SEGi University, organised an educational talk on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Bystander Intervention in collaboration with the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO).
The event commenced with an opening address by the Dean of FOBAL, Professor Dr. Irene, who underscored the importance of addressing gender-related issues and fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive university environment.

As part of this initiative, Dr Sudhashini, a member of WAO, worked closely with her student committee comprising FOBAL students to organise a charity drive from 23 February to 27 February 2026. The fundraising effort was conducted through henna art services, with all proceeds donated to the WAO Women’s Shelter in support of survivors of gender-based violence.
The donation was formally presented to:
• Ms Aina Amin, Capacity Building Officer, Women’s Aid Organisation
• Ms Anniessara Sukcha, Capacity Building Officer, Women’s Aid Organisation

During the event, Ms Aina Amin delivered an informative and engaging session on gender-based violence and bystander intervention. Her presentation covered the various types of GBV, the actions survivors can take, and the appropriate reporting channels and support systems available. The session provided valuable insights and practical guidance, reinforcing the university’s commitment to advocacy, awareness, and community engagement.
